More and more veterinarians are
becoming involved in the game industry. The first step is often
immobilisation, and a need to be more
informed and prepared initiated this course. It is a comprehensive
hands-on course in the safe and ethically acceptable methods of capturing
wildlife through chemical immobilisation. Special attention will be given
to new preparations, new equipment and modified techniques. It is
exclusive to veterinarians and veterinary students and will
thus be presented at that level.
The Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria, being the
only Faculty of Veterinary Science in South Africa, has extensive capacity
and expertise in wildlife. This capacity is enhanced
by access to and cooperation with a wide range of other institutions
operating in this field.
Wildlifevets.com is a wildlife veterinary consultancy with
extensive expertise and more than 20 years of experience in game capture
and relocation, veterinary research, disease investigation and
control in wildlife. The Faculty of Veterinary Science and
Wildlifevets.com
each have presented similar very successful courses to veterinarians for
the past number of years. This course is also an opportunity to consider further graduate studies in
wildlife at the University of Pretoria, advanced training, as well as
studentships at Wildlifevets.com.
